Turkmen Collection

ARZU STUDIO HOPE's Turkmen Collection celebrates the rich cultural history of the Afghan people. The Turkmen people emerged during the late first millennium as pastoral nomads in Central Asia, especially in Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. They wove rugs for centuries and even after settling in one place, most continued to weave rugs in sizes and shapes suitable for the nomadic life they lived in felt tents. The intricate designs of these rugs derive mainly from various Turkmen tribes, such as the Yomut, Ersari, Saryk, Salor, and Tekke. Various vegetable and other natural dyes were used to produce the rich colors. ARZU Studio Hope's collection represents many of these traditional tribal patterns, including the most typical motif the octagonal elephant's foot, called Bukhara.
