Bibi Jan, 29, lives in Kabul with her stepmother, sister, and father, though Bibi Jan’s rug weaving is the family’s only source of income. Now that Bibi Jan weaves in ARZU’s program and receives bonus money, she has been able to repay $600 of her family’s debt. As for Bibi Jan’s hope for the future, she says, “I hope to pay my debts and I wish a peaceful life for all Afghans.”

The traditional tribal patterns so easily find a home in my 1912 house, but I am growing to adore the contemporary ARZU STUDIO HOPE rugs. We have Blend in our front entrance hall and the buttery wool background strewn with sea green pattern is not just decorative but is an invitation to walk right in and maybe even sit down on the rug itself. These rugs are teaching me how to mix old and new in my home.
